Shoreline is an outdoor piece for over 100 community singers and 5 professional dancers created by Simon Birch Dance, with music composed by Jon Hughes. It was written and developed in late 2015 and early 2016, and performed outdoors in 2016 and 2017 on five different beaches in Cornwall: Kynance Cove, Sennan Cove, Praa Sands, Porthmeor Sands at St Ives, and Watergate Bay.

Shoreline press review

As composer for the project, Jon wrote an hour of a’capella 3 part choral music specially designed for community choir, working closely with musical director and choir leader Claire Ingleheart. Jon also created the libretto, using on material drawn from the choir members themselves, and also from contemporary newspaper articles.

Text and ideas were also drawn from public engagement activities around Cornwall
